First bloom- Slc. Sierra Doll x C. Little Dipper
Came home on Sunday from vacation in DC- and discovered this little cutie had opened while I was gone!
I love it. It looks entirely different from it's sibling that was brought as an example when I bought it at a OS meeting. That sibling had a much more pronounced white splash. This has really gotten me fascinated in how much siblings can differ- since all the hybrids I have so far are clones. This cross is by Alan Koch of Gold Country Orchids- it's a newer one, and not on their website yet. The parent, Slc. Sierra Doll, is definitely on my wishlist. The ones from GCO look stunning. And above all, just as Alan said, this guy has adapted to my dry home without batting an eye. The odd lump on the upper right will be addressed on a thread in Pests and Diseases. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4096/...103aa8c2_z.jpg It does have a very faint fragrance reminiscent of C. walkeriana. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4139/...b1b663f4_z.jpg |
Sweet!

NIce - what great color!

Thanks! I'm excited to see if the form will improve with the next flowering- the sepals are really thrown back on this one. If I were to be really nitpicky, I'd wish it had kept more of the roundness from Slc. Sierra Doll.
