These peacocks love hanging out in the parking area just outside our workshop. They're not the slightest bit shy, and have pretty much staked their claim in an area where some old junk cars are parked. Most of the males spend their time chilling on top of the cars, but lately there's one big male who's been voicing loud calls, and doing his courtship dance for the female. To impress, he fully expands his feathers and shakes them. He also spends in circles, pausing at each quarter turn, so his "lady friend" can get a better look at him from all angles.

Really cool... do they peck the flies off the cars. I remember years ago being in a carpark somewhere and a peacock and a peahen were going along the cars pecking all the splatted flies off the number plates of the cars.

No, they don't peck flies. These delapidated vehicles have been parked there for years and the only thing they accumulate is dust and peacock poop.

The peacocks owners live just behind our rented work shop space on a few scrappy acres of fenced property. They also have chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, geese and goats. There is a narrow ditch just behind the fence and most of the other birds congregate there or on our side of the fence. We can hear the goats but never see them. The birds make all kinds of noises and it sounds like a jungle.

Our property manager stays on site during the day and I think he feeds the birds. My husband used to feed them but stopped when the birds started coming inside his cabinet shop and leaving presents on the floor.

That's So Cool!

Peacocks have a wide territorial trail. I have one visiting my suburban garden occasionally, freaks out the neighbours (and the local felines). But the closest Peacock Owners (that I'm aware of) to me are from the Zoo which is over five miles away. Hasn't visited us this year though :(

They are quite confident and cocky birds  But brilliant and beautiful!

Thanks for sharing the Pics Junebug!

I think these are one of the most spectacular birds. I would love to live/work somewhere where I saw them regularly.

It was my pleasure!:) I'm trying to get decent photos of an unusual looking chicken too. He's fluffy and black with hairy looking feet and he struts around the same property like he owns the place. He's usually standing among weeds making it difficult to capture photos of his feet.

I love having them around. They're so beautiful and their bird calls are amazing. We rent 2 workshop bays that have large garage door openings. The other day the "big guy" got startled when he passed by our shop just as our large air compressor kicked in. "Big Guy" didn't flinch a feather but he did respond with several rounds of loud bird calls.
