Kawamoto Orchids (online and ebay)

I just wanted to give these guys a good shout-out as I ordered from them not too long ago several plants that showed up in wonderful condition, at great prices and they were packaged very well. They're out of Hawaii and despite using FedEx 2-day, shipping wasn't much at all.

Here's his ebay site:
Kawamoto Orchids

I had a chance to personally visit their nursery in Hawaii and have to say-- they grow incredible plants!

Agreed!
Reid and his family have some great stuff. I've ordered from them and also had the pleasure of meeting Reid's Dad at Redlands...where I picked up about 8 chids at their tent :cloud9:

Lovely chids and really nice folks

I ordered some plants from them recently. The plants looked great when they came in: nice, big and healthy-looking. However, one (vanilla planifolia) died within a week (not sure if that was their fault though). Two others (Sharry Baby 'Sweet Fragrance' and Den. anosmum) both tested positive for CymMV...Not sure they have any idea about the viruses--otherwise really great service. They even upgraded my Sharry Baby to one in spike.

I e-mailed them about the virus-infected ones today, we'll see how it goes.

Did the plants look ill??? How can you tell if the plant has it ? Should I be worried about my other plants? Should I isolate the ones I got from them? I'm totally freaked out now.

I think the only way to tell is to get a virus testing kit but as I've never tested mine I'm not sure where you get those from.

It is a good idea to isolate them from others though until you have been able to test them.

I have gotten many plants from them on ebay. Whenever I am in plant buying mode I check out their listings. Have always gotten really nice, large, great looking plants. Many timesthe plants will cime in sheath and sometimes you can get some in bud.

I'm very surprised to see this :(

I can understand that sometimes a plant will have a virus...and I'm sure they will appreciate your email notifying them of a possible problem.

I'm confused about the vanilla...when you say it died, what happened? Did it turn to mush?

I don't have any test kits. I have pictures of the odd leaf spotting and craters on both sides of the leaves
