Cattleya aclandiae blooming--finally!
After growing this one successfully for several years, but without getting a single bloom from it, I finally got it to flower. I think what worked was keeping it warm over the winter and increasing the light levels (I had been growing it intermediate, especially during the winter months, and giving moderate, instead of very bright, light). Very large blooms for such a small plant.

Wow!
I'm not really a Cattleya lover but I have to admit that this is very beautiful! :D Thanks for sharing and congrats! :D |
Wow, Steve! That's one spectacular flower. Aclandiae has been on my list for a while now.
Gotta ask the question: Is it fragrant? It looks like it smells good. :) |
what a great flower!! well worth the wait, and good growing!!

Congrats on finally getting blooms! :) It was a long wait but very worth it, the blooms are gorgeous. I'm happy you managed to figure out what this one needs to bloom. It's always very rewarding to finally figure it out.

Great flowers!
Congratulations on getting it to bloom. |
Very nice! You have a really dark one aclandiae too. Once this guy gets bigger, it'll bloom many times throughout the year. Mine usually goes 3x, starting in January and finishing about now. Mine just opened again this week. And the scent is amazing!!!
