Phal bloom question...
So what is the longest you have ever had a Phal. in bloom?
I'm wondering because I have a harlequin NOID that has not dropped one pedal of one flower since it first bloomed back at the end of December 2009. This plant is HUGE! It has leaves that measure 14 inches long and has three stalks (all at least 2 feet long) with loads of blooms on each. And it's growing a new leaf! I water it as usual and keep it in my Eastern exposure bathroom window. Not that I want this plant to drop any of its blooms, but it makes me wonder. I know they can keep their blooms longer than most other orchids, but this seems crazy to me! 6 months!?!?:blushing::shock: Here's an image I took of it back at the end of February. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4002/...f733b0da_b.jpg I need to take some more recent images of it. |
The longest I've had one in bloom is 10 months...but not with all the original flowers.
Your plant is amazing! Joann |
I've got one that I've had for over a year in bloom although like Joann not with all the original blooms - it constantly reblooms so there are always flowers. It currently only has one flower on it, but is working on some new ones.

Holy cow! 10 months and one year in bloom!?!? That would be cool.
The last time I counted the blooms I think it was at 31 flowers and none have fallen off. This thing is a freaking beast! I'd hate to think what it would be like in perfect conditions as my bathroom is far from perfect. But this plant seems to like it in there so that's where it'll stay. |
Sounds like the "bathroom beast" is now a permanent fixture in the "throne room":rofl::rofl:

But yes, it is a permanent fixture in that room now. It won't fit anywhere else really! We have a large corner tub that has a long, wide edge in front of the East facing window. when you're in the tub this plant kind of hangs over your head. |
I have a Phal. Intermedia that's been in bloom for about 2 years, non-stop. The spike is about 5 feet long now.

jk, is that the flowers survive a long time while other new ones grown and then bloom? Or are these the same flowers continously living and staying open?
