Help with phal seedlings
Hi I purchased some phal hybrid seedlings about 5 cm in leaf span.
The plants were apparently health but often I mark soft dark patches develop on the leaf and it starts spreading and soon the whole plant dies. I water the plants scantily (once in 7 days or so) Can someone throw some light on this topic. Thanking you in advance, Devapratim from India(conditions here are hot and humid) |
Sounds like a mold or fungus issue. In warm, humid conditions, any droplet of water on a leaf can be an incubator for them, especially if there is little air movement around the plants.
You might try making cinnamon "tea" - stir a heaping spoonful of powdered cinnamon into about a liter of boiling water. After it cools to room temperature, filter the sediment out, and the brown liquid is a pretty good fungicide. Spray the plant and soak the medium and your issues should go away. |
To add to what Ray says, since you're climate is hot and humid, it may be a good idea to get some air circulating around the plants, by having a fan nearby for example. That will help keep the rot from reoccuring.

Thanks friends,
I have done pretty much the same, just scared to spray the under surface of the tiny leaves. I have a fan and I switch it on after spraying to dry off the remnant liquid. The plants are all hanging so enough scope for airflow and no scope for water to stagnate. I will keep you update about the development. regards, Dev |
