L. anceps to wet?

HI there!! :D i have a L anceps that i got recently. it raied hard for a day here, and the spaghnum moss is soaked, should i try to dry it out? or just let it dry out naturally and not water till it does?

Izzie 05-24-2010 03:40 PM

L. anceps are very forgiving, just let it dry out naturally and it should be fine. Maybe let it get a couple hours of full sun.

Call_Me_Bob 05-24-2010 04:29 PM

okay. the grower told me that he wouldnt put it in full sun

I grow mine in slightly less than full sun, but you have to acclimate the thing before you put it out there.

Call_Me_Bob 05-24-2010 05:32 PM

i have mine in slightly less sun also. but izzie said to put it in full sun to let it dry out, is that ok?

peeweelovesbooks 05-24-2010 06:44 PM

If I were you? I wouldn't put it in full sun just like that. You may burn the leaves.

Is it hot where you are? The heat may be sufficient to dry out the moss, without exposing it to more sun.

This is exactly why I don't grow these things in moss. Too wet for too long.

But, that's just me. What do you feel comfortable doing?

Call_Me_Bob 05-24-2010 07:43 PM

well, i have it in the filtered sun still, because i wasnt sure about burning the leaves. it came in moss and on another thread we decided its best to keep it in what its used to

Izzie 05-24-2010 07:49 PM

I've put sun-loving Catt alliances in the sun for just an hour or two when they got too wet with no problems, your experience could be different- sorry I didn't add that caveat in the first place. :)

I say some full sun eventually, because in my many discussions with knowledgeables on here, the general consensus is that L. anceps do very well with bright sun for a few hours a day, with some thriving in full sun.

If the plant will be getting frequent rain, and/or you have high humidity, you may want to use different media. I don't think L. anceps likes being very wet for very long.
Maria - I know you grow them successfully - what's your take?

Call_Me_Bob 05-24-2010 08:02 PM

yes, whats your take?? im undecided what i should do. in the even i do replant, what should i replant to? im not sure if i should replant now if i do replant, i have two nice leads and roots
