Dendrobium Unicum death in a flask...deflask?
2 Attachment(s)
Hi,
I have some small flasks with 5 plants in each from Thailand. One is a dendrobium unicum. I have had them on my windowsill, bright lighted, and it appears that one, possibly two, of the five plants in the flask have died. There are a few dead leaves on the agar. Should I deflask the rest? Is there hope for them? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Danielle |
In my experience with flasks, they are shipped when the plantlets are ready to pot out. To delay, even though they seem very small, is to risk multiple problems. I would remove the remaining plants now and put them in a compot.

Den unicum is deciduous and, if the one I used to have is a good judge of the rest, spends most of the time looking like a pile of dead twigs. If you just imported the plants from the other side of the world, the change in light/temperature it's now getting could be telling your plant that its time to go to sleep. Don't give up on them yet.
Unfortunately, I've never deflasked a plant before, so I can't really tell you if it should be done right away or if you should wait to see if they'll perk up again. Tyler |
