Phalaenopsis amboinensis var. flavida

Hello guys, I'm new in this forum so here's something to share. My Phal. amboinensis var. flavida is quite a mature plant which I've acquired from a breeder in Singapore.

This is not a clone so I hope it has good genetics to be a stud plant :)

Welcome to OB!

You have a lovely amboinensis. But I hate to tell you that it is not a flavida. Please see the following link:

Thanks, perhaps it's my misunderstanding. As I read from phals.net, those with yellow based are known as var. flavida while the "common" ones are white based? :D

Please correct me if I'm wrong anywhere ;)

That is one lovely Phal! I'm sincerely jealous. I have yet to bloom an amboinensis, though I own a couple.

Don't worry, they are known to be free-flowering. Just that they spike only when the plant get rather matured.

Hope yours will turn out beautiful too :D

You are correct. According to Christenson's Monograph, flavida is with the yellow background as opposed to white background. I think there may be some confusion here with "flava" vs. "flavida". They are two different forms. The flava form is the yellow with paler yellowish instead of darker brown markings.
