Sticky Buds?
 

The new buds on a few of my orchis seem to be having trouble opening fully?

the seem to be sticking shut?

any ideas as to why this might happen?

Many orchids secrete excess sugars this way. If you taste the sap it will be very sweet. Sometimes so much will be produced that it glues the buds shut. It can be gently washed off.

yea, in the elbow of the flower stocks and the spikes, i get lil drops of goo that taste good.

But i dont thing that the buds themselfs are "sticky"

they seem to simply be struggling to open?

just be patient, they will open by themselves

Happens to me too, now and then. It's usually a the tip of the bud, or along the edges. I give them a gentle squeeze to break that seal if they have trouble opening all the way.
