potting medium question
 

Hi everyone. I have a question related to the potting medium. I have a Phal I vant to repot and I'm having trouble finding a good potting medium. All I find here in Romania is a mix with few bark pieces and mostly perlite, so it looks like dirt. At work I have a lot of pine trees, so I was wondering if it is ok to use fresh pine bark as medium, and if it is ok, how do I prepare it? Could I use bark only or should I mix it with other ingredients? I haven't found Sphagnum in stores, but I could get some moss from the forrest. It looks similar to sphag. Sorry for so many questions.

ok first you Must begin to relize ....medium does not have to be bark or moss....

lava rock and broken crockery can work also.In fact the choices seem to be as different as the people growing them.I myself use rice hulls.

as for youyr question about fresh pine bark Im think it might have to much resin in it still...I dont even like it when I buy a bag of potting soil for regular plants and its full of pine bark and wood chips ...
