Ecugenera

Just received an order from Ecuagenera. It was shipped Monday and arrived first thing this morning. I know they've gotten some flak recently, but I want to put in a plug for them. I ordered about 35 plants and was satisfied. One small plant didn't make it through the post and one plant was very tiny and may not make it, but the rest all look good. These were shipped from a Florida show, I believe.
I should add, though, that when ordering from them one does receive some of what appear to be recently collected plants and most of the plants are bare root though wrapped in sphagnum and newspaper, but I'm used to handling such plants and that doesn't bother me. In fact, I repot everything anyway.
There are many rare and unusual species available and the price is right, so I am willing to take a few losses. I would certainly order from them again and would recommend them to anyone who is able to handle bare-root plants and newly collected plants.

I can also rercommend Ecuagenera. I have had numerous dealings with them and I have always been satisfied. I recently went on a two week orchid "hunting" tour with them and it was the trip of a lifetime.

I will continue to buy plants from Ecuagenera.

Do they collect only from fallen trees or do they deplete the forests?

They seldom, if ever, collect orchids from the wild. They have an extensive breeding program to generate more of each species - their lab has thousands of flasks.

Of course the original parent plants were wild collected.

I have mixed opinions of their stock lately.

Normally, they're pretty good.

But I just recently got a batch of around 15 or 17 plants of which only 3 are going to pull through for sure, and 1 is questionable but still alive, while 1 other is in ICU. The rest didn't make it.

Those are terrible odds.

Not sure what it is.

I've bought from them years ago without many problems at all. Most of the stuff I bought from them in the past did very well.

Maybe they're taking a hit from the economy being so bad worldwide.

Perhaps it's a sanitary issue, idk. Some of them seemed to die from some bacterial disease.

Many others just plain didn't have viable roots.

Maybe on the next order, I should request a better handle on sending plants with proper root systems.
