P. Violacea just isnt happy...

Wondering if anyone has some tips on keeping Violaceas happy... seems like most of mine are growing okay, but never seem happy enough to bloom. Others don't grow or change at all. Any ideas to make them happy and healthy enough to bloom?

How are you growing them? They do like warm conditions and fairly bright light. I have one that I'm growing under T5 fluorescents inside and is getting ready to bloom now.

Right now i have them in a south-facing window, so they get the light, and they are near our heat vent, which we usually keep the house at no lower than 70 in the winter (which it still is in Michigan :-p)

How's your humidity? What medium are they potted in? If the plants are near a heating vent I would be concerned about low humidity drying the plants out. Do you have any photos of what is happening with the plants and your growing area?

Susan is right, heaters blow really dry air. If you could redirect the vent and circulate the warm air around the room with a fan, that would be ideal. Maybe a humidity tray would help as well.

i woudl use a clear storage box with a clear top [$1 at HD or $ 3 @Ikea ]. Not seal the lid bu leave it cracked open. It increases humidity way more than any humidity tray. Use this method for keikis. open to circulate air.No fungus problems. greenbox [vs greenhouse] or poor man's terrarium.

70 degrees is really high for night temps. Around 60 will help initiate spiking. A good general rule is a 10 to 15 degree drop at night.
