Mix ratio of KLN

When attempting to establish my phals in S/H, how much KLN should I mix per gallon for watering during the transition period? I've been using 2 tablespoons per gallon with no fertilizer on these plants. So far, everything looks great, but I don't want to overdo.

I would say that's probably too much. The manufacturer indicates 1-3 teaspoons per gallon when soaking plants. I'm not sure that you'd actually be causing any damage to your plants by using more though.

I use 2-3 drops per gallon when watering normally.

I agree with Tyler. It may work for now; but, I would start putting a bit less..

OOpsie. I re-read the directions and it did say teaspoon not tablespoon. :blushing:

What I plan on doing with the KLN mix (1 gallon water to 1 teaspoon of KLN) is make sure my phals are established in S/H first for a few more weeks, then start using fertilizer 1/4 teaspoon per half gallon and a drop or 2 of Superthrive.

Thank you for the replies. :)

1) The additional SuperThrive or K-L-N is NOT going to accelerate the plant getting established. It might "turn on" root growth, but that will happen more rapidly if the plant is kept very warm or on a heating pad.

2) 1/4 tsp/gal of WHAT formula fertilizer? That dilution is only appropriate if you are starting with a 40-40-40.

I'm using Better Gro Orchid Plus 20-14-13. Maybe I inputted the information wrong on your TDS calculator, Ray, but I got 132 ppm of Nitrogen with 1/2 tsp. of fertilizer per gallon, which seems optimal as far as Nitrogen concentration goes. If I did something wrong, please let me know. :)

I should clarify something...the jug I use to water my plants with is a half gallon size. That's why I listed 1/4 teaspoon as the measurement. Sorry for the confusion.

Daytime temps here are in the low 80's and nighttime temps are in the high 60's. I have not been using bottom heat.

You're right. Not knowing it was a quarter-teaspoon in a half-gallon does make a difference!
