Epidendrum floribundum x Encyclia cordigera

This plant is large, in a 7" clay pot. Last summer it grew two good size new leads, so I was optimistic I might finally get it to bloom. As spring approached it looked like each new p-bulb was starting a spike :)
Then only 1 spike developed :(
Then the one spike only developed 2 buds :((

Can anyone offer some hints to improve the culture of this plant ? I grow it outside in the summer, medium sun, water regularly, fert weekly. Cool of in fall before bringing inside.

It is a nice flower - just think there should be / could be more !

I have 2 of these...I love them :) and they both get very high sun. I wouldn't put them outside in the direct sun but they only get about 20% shading through the screening on the pool cage here.

One of them has two spikes getting ready to bloom and the other isn't doing anything :dunno:

They may not give out a lot of flowers but the few they do provide us with are just SO cute!

Susanne,
Do they need cooler temps in fall / winter to kick start flower spikes ?
