Coconut milk

So i got a can of the stuff to add a little to my water for this week's watering on friday.

and it has perservatives in it.

I should just go buy a fresh coconut shouldnt I?

You can buy coconut water (better than milk) and coconut milk that are preservative free, just takes some searching.

Hey There, can you tell me what you are using the Coconut milk for. Tuned in a bit late..... :)

Sheridan- it has cytokinins in it that are a natural rooting hormone (or acts as hormone). Similar to the water you use to boil potatoes and pasta, and the water you rinse rice in.

Some people say mixing coconut water with your water is best, but people have had success with coconut milk as well.
You can find the milk in the asian section of your supermarket- the coconut water is often in the canned or bottled drink section.
I've found several that are organic and preservative free, with no additives.

Search for "natural rooting hormones" on this board and you'll find a lot of information, there was a particularly good thread about it recently.

yep.

specific hormones in the stuff promote rooth growth and such.

I caught that thread. LOL

I will get a can of organic water, or just a coconut.

how do you open a coconut? i was thinking my drill

Drill will work - through the "eyes".

Hi Bob - I'm also trying to use a dilute amount of coconut water (25%) mixed with rainwater to rehab a "hopeless" phal that started with only one aerial root. When I began, the plant had the spindly inner parts of the root system, but all the velamen on the outer "terrestrial" roots had rotted away (the plant was given to me by a friend, and was originally potted in 100% sphagnum moss that stayed too wet - it was in full bloom so I didn't want to repot!).

In any event, I dipped the lower part of the plant in Rootone (which may or may not work - I was under the impression this wasn't for orchids). I've since gotten the plant to spring the beginnings of an aerial root, and have placed the plant under a glass bell to regulate high humidity.

The plant is in bad shape, but it's trying. I've sort of resigned myself to its death, so I'm using this opportunity to test out the coconut water legend. I'll post my results as I see them (or as the plant dies :))

I purchased 2 coconuts from the grocery and will drill the water out today and begin its feeding!

Sweet Addy
