Anybody know the name of this?
I picked up this dend. nobile at our local orchid society show last weekend and it has no name. (Is that what NOID means?) It's a gorgeous thing.

NOID means No ID (no identification). There are countless tens of thousands of dendrobium crosses and to compund problems not all progeny from the same cross look alike.

Hi Terri!
Yes, NOID means without identification. I guess your Dendro is nobile hybrid (Dendrobium nobile is a natural species), its very hard to find the correct ID in such cases. But it's very cool, congrats! |
Thanks guys! I guess it will join the ranks of my other NOIDs. :)

Looks very pretty...
I don't think it is possible to give a positive ID to it, sorry |
That is beautiful!
In case you are unfamiliar with nobile dens...they need a definite winter rest. I stop feeding and watering mine the first week of Nov and they only get an occasional very light mist until late Feb/early Mar. Once I see the growths along the canes, I slowly reintroduce their feeding schedule. If you knew this already... :blushing: |

Thanks for the info Susanne. I'm a relative novice so appreciate the advice. I wonder about not watering though. I live out west and we have almost no humidity in any season. Anything above 20% and we're all wiping our brows thinking we'll keel over any minute. I've been watering the nobiles (I have 2) all winter but not feeding. They seem perfectly happy, in fact I have a rebloom on my Frosty Dawn that hasn't opened yet. I just don't think there's enough humidity to keep them happy without water. What do you think>
Ross, sounds like you need to make friends with the dendros. ;) |
Congratulations on a new beautiful purchase! Any scent?
|
Nope, no scent. The Frosty Dawn on the other hand is very fragrant in the mornings.
