New Neos.

Hi all! It's been a bit quiet here lately so I thought I'd post about my new acquisitions.

I swept the Longwood Orchid Show last weekend and scored a bunch of new plants; Benisuzume, Gojyo Fukurin, and Hisui; Sedirea japonica and S. japonica 'Minmaru'; and finally a Masde. 'Angel Frost'.

I missed out on a Sophronitis coccinea where the vendor even sold her show plants. How's this for a beauty?

It looks like you just spent a few bucks on those plants. Nice selection.

Nice new acquisitions, Jim. The Sophronitis is a cutie. I've gotten all my new neos this season and am probably done for the year because I'm broke. I saw Glenn's new list from his recent visit to Japan. Are you planning on getting anything from him?

DelawareJim 03-30-2010 12:24 PM

Hi Tracy!

I haven't seen Glenn's new list yet, but I really want to get a couple more from him like Akebono, Fugaku, maybe a Kibana, and of course a Sophronitis if he has any left. Like you though, I put a pretty big dent in my Neo budget for the year so unless I sell one of the grandkids when they visit for Easter , I'm pretty much done for the year too.

I saw a really nice Akebono on Seed-Engei I was waiting for the weather to get better for but someone beat me to it. I should have put a deposit on it. :((

Cheers.

:rofl:Selling grandkids? I don't see you post on the neo forum for a while and next thing I know, you're evolving from a neo fan to one of the neo crazies. Don't feel to bad about Akebono. That's a pretty popular variety and I'm sure Satomi will have another one. If you get it from Glenn, you might want to ask for a close up photo of the actual plant you are getting, since not all Akebono plants have good variegation.

If you want to see Glenn's list, just PM me your email address again and I can forward it to you.

Well I caved and got a Sophronitis coccinea 4N 'Toshi" and Neo. 'Choseiden' from Glenn-San. We had a wonderful chat about the Sohpronitis and one Mr. Toshi who personally selected the plants for the display at the Tokyo Graqnd Prix. I think Glenn was as excited about it as it was.

Cheers.

I bought an Akebono from Seed-Engei but not off her eBay auctions. The variegation is decent...but maybe I'm just too picky...lol. The growth is slow on it as well!

You! You're the one who bought my Akebono from Satomi! Just kidding!!!!

I think I'm going to have to pay Glenn-San a personal visit to get my Akebono, or tell him to get the best he can find for less than $XXX dollars when he goes to Japan next February.

Of course I could amend my plant import permit to include Neos. and go to Japan to pick one out myself, but with airfare, hotel, and car rental for at least a week, do i want to spend $5,000 for a plant? Gee I don't know...

Cheers.
