Hello from Delaware -not quite new but gone a long time

HI all
I have been sort of monitoring one of the alliance boards for a while, but had not posted often. As of yesterday's visit to Longwood Garden's Orchid show and sale, I have a bunch of new plants, Onc,'s Den.'s, Cat's and some I have no idea what I bought. I grow only on a windowsill in the winter, thankfully over the kitchen sink, so humidity isn't so much of a problem. But I'm outrgowing the sill quickly. Thankfully, almost all of what I purchased were mini's yesterday except on. And I have a lot of questions, so I'll be watching more forums, I think. I have had sucess with Toluminia's (sic) -now up to three which take up no room, since they hang from the light over the sink. The new ones are going to be a challenge as as of yet I have to figure out most of what they are potted in. They seem quite dry but I'll work on that shortly. I did purchase a couple of "hydroponic" kits for some of my new ones, and will need info on those too, so off to search and subscribe to forums.

Karen in DE :hello

Hello Karen and welcome back.

I was at the Longwood Show also and saw Jerre's hydroculture booth.

I Have a bit of experience now with both Semi-hydroponic growing from Ray Barkalow First Rays' "Semi-Hydroponic - TM" Culture, and hydroculture from Jerre Harms, Creative Hydroponics, so I should be able to answer your questions.

You a member of Del. Orchid Society yet?

Cheers.
Jim

Hi Jim
Sadly I am not a member of De Orchid Society. I am a member of AOS for whatever that is worth. I'd love to meet others but I do not drive and have difficulty getting places at night as hubby doesn't like to drive at
night these days. I'd gone to Longwood with a son who is into orchids, but works weird hours (whenever the hospital calls) and cannot rely on him being available to drive me about.

It was a great show on Sat/Sunday at Longwood. Longwood alone is great but throw in the International Orchid show and vendors and I'm usually there. Where do you all meet?

Karen

Forgot to add, I repotted my first today into the hydroponic clay balls- a Mtdm Ruffles 'scent of a lady". It probably should be divided- purchased from a vendor last year at Longwood and just finnished blooming on 8 shoots- but I just cleaned out the old bark, gave it a bath and into the new pot it went. I redid a couple of almost gone phal's as well, but not into the hydroponic stuff. They went back into bark as I'm not sure either will survive but both bloomed well in Feb. I "Overwatered them" to say the least. I should stick to the Toluminia's which need water every day. They do great! <G>

We'll see how the "creative hydroponics" go. I bought four pots so I will see how the first fares and them perhaps repot more. They would take up less room that way and since I'm working with wide windowsills, room is at a premium. <G>

Thanks
Karen

Where are you located? I used to live in Pike Creek but moved over the border near Avondale, PA.
