Phalaenopsis bastianii in bud!
3 Attachment(s)
It's going to bloom!!! :bananaslide:
I've had this Phal for about a year now. It was in spike when I first got it, but the change in climate made the spike stall. It grew a second, bigger spike, which also stalled when I brought it home from college for the summer. I decided to leave it at home since the conditions there would be better for it anyways, and it's rewarding me (or my parents, rather  ) with blooms, on both spikes! I hope it's still in bloom when I come home in May! Here's pictures of the buds. You can see the barring that the flowers will have. It's growing in a south-facing window for the winter because Pacific Northwest winters are so dim. Attachment 42679 Attachment 42680 Attachment 42681 |

Can't wait to see it!

Congrats, hope it is still flowering for you in May.

hmm...never see this flower...waiting^^

It is dim here in the winter, isn't it? I have all my orchids crowded around my South facing window for now. Do you put anything in a North facing window over winter?

Looking great, Evan!

Love it evan! I have one but it's a few years away from blooming. It's nice to see what I can look forward too!
Thanks for sharing Katie :) |
Hi Evan,
I just noticed a first spike on my little one...yours' is way ahead of mine. Cngrats! When mine blooms, maybe we can compare...? Please post a pic when it makes its showing. :D |
Thanks everyone!
I'm really looking forward to the open blooms. This little tease has been taunting me for a year! I'll look forward to pictures of yours, Al and David, and anyone else with one too! Sadie, I only have one north-facing window and the cat has a firm claim on it, so I never put anything in that window. Jewel-type orchids like Ludisia discolor might survive the winter in a north-facing window, but I think even they wouldn't be happy. But our winter doldrums are the price we pay for our beautiful green forests and gardens, so all we can do is work with what we have. |
