My new orchid has issues, the un-opened flowers are wilting and dying... I did nothing to it, but give it water, the normal orchid food with Superthrive added, all my orchids get it, so what could be causing this? I heard sometimes a change in enviorment can add stress to the plant.

aww dang
yes, the change in environment sometimes can cause this - sometimes I think the orchids do it just to be ornery

Thats what I say...aawww dang!!! and I was right they would had been beautiful, this is what they would had looked like, or close to it...I cut the wilted flowers off to the 1st node or branch hopeing to will continue to spike, 4 flowers are still firm and a smaller spike thats still growing, so there is still some hope to get a flower or 2.

ohh yea!! very close, how attractive they are, I love the Burgandy color, my next favorite to blue...Thanks WhiteRabbit, I am crossing my fingers also, I really don't know what to do at this point for it.

well - if worse comes to worst, and the buds all drop - keep the plant happy and it may bloom next year :)

is this the one from a previous post that had a phal label on it? That sucks... you never did get to take that photo and send to the grower!

Yes!! thats the one and the remaining 4 buds also died, but I still have a chance at some flowers, I still have this smaller spike going on.

Jeffery 03-21-2010 12:06 PM

So now I am wondering about the other spikes and what I should do with them, should I cut them back to the 1st node or remove them completely? I noticed the spike where it comes out of the leaf is tube like, so I figure there is no way to cut the spike beyond that point which means part of the spike will be left behind.
