Cymbidium seedling pest - red spider? thrip? HELP! :)
hI THERE,
1ST TIME POST. LONG TIME READER. I have some cym seedlings and a couple plants have spots and sections that look like the life has been sucked out of em! see below. Whilst taking the photos i also noticed a little white egg which i popped. I found that bug on one of the plants one evening last week. http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/9651/1photo.jpg http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/1024/5photo.th.jpg http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/4881/bugphoto.th.jpg http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/1024/5photo.th.jpg http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/3470/4photo.th.jpg any help would be much appreciated! |
The bug you found looks like an Otiorhynchus (a vine weevil). However the damage on your plants, as far I can tell in the fuzzy pics, is not that of a vine weevil. Feeding weevils make notches in the edge of the leaf, sort of like a hole puncher. Adults aren't generally a major problem, but their larvae are terrible because they munch on roots!
As for what's wrong with your plants, any chance you can take some photos that are focused on the plant and not the background? It would make it much easier to see what it may be! |
