Cattleya question
when does catts start producing pseudobulbs? this may sound silly, but I am not sure what a pseudobulb looks like on a catt, does anyone have a clear picture of what I should look for?

sorry - I don't have very good macro on my camera, but here's a couple of pix
http://img532.imageshack.us/img532/1684/p3140168.jpg above pic - nubbie on the left is a root, nubbie to the right of that is a new lead http://img532.imageshack.us/img532/5341/p3140166.jpg |
Pseudobulbs, a bit confusingly, aren't always bulb-shaped. On many Catts (such as yours), the pseudobulbs are elongated and cane-like. In your picture, each of the structures your plant has above the potting media would be considered a pseudobulb. (I counted 4 or 5 in your photo). The new lead that you provided the close-up of will eventually become another pseudobulb once it has gotten bigger and produced leaves.

The bulbs are the things where the leaf or leaves come out of. Just follow the leaf/leaves to it, and the thing they're attached to is the bulb.
