Dendrobium phalaenopsis 'cane rot'
Hi
Recently a new (hard) cane started rotting (blackening) from the the top leaves. The leaves fell out and this is spreading down the cane and it is starting to soften. Should I break or cut the cane off? If so, where? As close to the base as possible or just below the softness? Appreciate any help. Also, thinking of mounting this after have dealt with the rot. Any tips please? Should it be mounted pointing upwards or downwards? Just thinking how to avoid water sitting in the plant which I guess caused the rotting in the first place. Cheers John |
I have some den phals none mounted though. Never experienced rot. I would cut it fairly close and dab the cut with cinammon powder. If the rot is caused by standing water you must have been really dousing the plant. Even with a good soaking in the morning they should be dry come evening. Good Luck.

Thanks Donald
Thanks for the advise. i'm hoping it was the watering that cause the problem and not some other sinister issue. Cheers John |
