i have a phalaenopsis and i noticed one of the leaves has become soft and sqwishy.

this is spreading on the leaf. can i cut it of? will it take care its self? will it spread to the reat of plant? what is the best way to cut it if i need to?

If it has not complete spread back to the stem. Cut off the squishy part plus about an inch of the heathly looking part of the leaf with a sterilized knife and dust cut with cinnamon.

Soft and squishy???? As in soft and wrinkled but green from end to center or soft and discolored or where's the pictures?????? As Ted is intimating this could be bacterial rot or fungal infection or.... or..... or not enough water because you aren't watering enough or you've watered too much and have a situation with root rot and the plant hasn't the means to absorb the water.... so pics would be helpful.

Has your orchid been exposed to significant cold recently?

I remember that my book has a paragraph about a leaf collapsing and becoming watery overnight due to leaf or centre growth rot, brought on by extreme cool temperatures.
