Question about a short spike on a phal

My phal is in spike. I have had it for three years and have gotten it to rebloom twice after I received it in bloom. So, this is it's fourth spike since I got it. This spike is short, only two to three inches long and the flowers (actually the buds before they open) are already showing up and seem bunched together. Normally, the spikes get nice and long before the flowers "pods" appear, and I have no problem. What could have happened to produce such a short spike? The orchid itself is big and healthy. It is still in the same window that it has been in for the last three years. No other major changes. I feed it weakly weekly. Thanks for any help, Cindy

What is it potted in and when did you repot last?

It is in the same type of media as it has always been. It's a mix of fir bark, cork, and sphagnum, heavy on the chunky light on "Fluff". This mixture seems to work best in my environment, so things don't stay wet but don't dry out too fast. It was last repotted late summer, after its last spike died all the way back to the plant, like they always do. Safely cut the spike, waited a bit, and then repotted, just like evey year. I'm at a loss. Cindy
