Aerial Roots and re-potting

What do others do when they re-pot their Phals? Do you push the roots in and bury them into the new mix or leave them outside?

Is this optional or is one system preferred over the other?

I think they give the plant a certain distinguished look. Saying that, one of mine is growing some quite lengthy ones that might be better going into the pot

I leave aerial roots out of the media. They are not the type of root that will live in the media. They get their nourshiment from the water in the air, or in the case of our house grown plants, from spraying daily and from humidity trays.

Aerial roots that grow on thier own into the pot are fine. Ones that are buried during repotting will generaly rot. When a root grows it permanently tailors itself to its surroundings. Any major change will cause it to die.

Thanks trdyl I didn't realise the aerial roots were structurally different to the lower ones but it does make sense. I try to mist them regularly but I'm not sure if I am doing it any good or not. I don't want to encourage mould or fungal issues so I think I will back off with this.
