Bulbophyllum beccarii?
I used to have this species years ago - love the sort of shingle mushroom look of the leaves. Now that I am building some large new orchid enclosures I've been looking and not been able to locate a US source for it. Does anyone have any leads they could share? I don't care if it's blooming size or not.

Mount Prospect Orchids has a few divisions for sale, last I checked. Good luck! I love the look of their growth habit.

Orchids Limited carried this species about a year ago, but according to their website, they're sold out. Still, it might not hurt to give them a call to see if there are one or more seedlings available. Many times even though a commercial grower won't list a species if they have too few to put on their site, that doesn't mean that they're completely out. Be forewarned, however, that if Orchids Limited does still have this one, you'll probably be asked to pay a premium price for it. They have nice products, but their prices aren't cheap. Andy's Orchids might carry this one too. They specialize in species. So even if they don't carry beccarii, they might be able to point you to someone who does. Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the leads guys.
My original came from Jerry at Orchids Ltd some years ago. IIRC it was the same size/price as Mount Prospect. I just love the leaves on this one ever since my first visit to OL when I saw his big plant climbing some cork tubes going up the GH support pole. Once I get the new orchid chambers built I'll have to drive up there and see if he has any stashed around the complex. If not I'll try and hit up MP. |
