Sick orchids are such a bummer

Ok, I was tempted *again* by a picture of a big old orchid on ebay. It was Onc. Sharry Baby and I already have 3 but my excuse was that this one was HUGE! I saw stars twinkling; you know how it goes...and you think you know the perfect place where it will fit in the house etc etc.

So it got here today...and the stars fell down right out of my sky :dumb: :dumb: :dumb:

First, it had the BIGGEST scale females I have ever seen in my life! Second couple of the Pbulbs looked like things had been drilling into them. Then third looked like animals had kindly eaten and chewed most of the leaves. Roots were pretty yucky as well.

*sigh*
So I doused it in kerosene (j/k) No I drenched it in insecticide, removed the burrowed bulbs and whacked most of its roots off.
I just don't know if it's worth trying to save. I'm hoping I can but dang...

What are the odds do you think that it will infect the rest of my greenhouse down the line? I think I got all the visible pests off and I literally bathed it in insecticide. I've just never everrrr seen female scale covers that large before. It literally made my blood run cold. I've quarantined it for the time being but it really creeped me out.

Just keep it aside for a few months till you are satisfied it hasn't got anything nasty left hiding somewhere. I have a Tolumnia that keeps getting scale, I had to separate it from my Orchidarium to avoid contaminiation. Fortunately for now, my orchidarium is unharmed.

Did you contact the vendor?

Hiya Sue,

No I haven't said anything to them yet. I hate that part of the transaction if things go wrong. I don't like confrontation :(

Hey, you should do something. Give him at least negative feedback :(( Did he describe the plant as being sick already? He should've done that. I think you must give him a negative feedback so other people will know in the future who they deal with.

I wouldn't give negative feedback yet but do contact the vendor.... he may give you a partial refund or something

Oh you should make contact with this vendor. You have a right to express your disappointment. It's up too them to make good of it.
Go for it

Keep it separate from other orchids. And contact the seller. You can't just remain silent.
