flowers in sheath

I have a drumbeat heritage that has one pseudobulb with a flower and another with flowers in the sheath still growing. I have the plant under a 150 watt HPS that is up stair in my grow room. I am wondering if the flowers that are still in sheath will be harmed if I take the plant and put it on my mantle to display the current flower. The mantle has little light but is where my wife likes to keep the plants that are in bloom. Will the flowers in sheath still bloom or is it best to just leave them under the light?

How far up the sheath are they??? if they are about to emerge i don think its a problem. i actually have the same plant as you isnt it great!!! mine has 4 active sheaths! so excited! if anything i think that the buds will advance slowly or maybe stall... but before you take my advice hopefully some others will chime in to correct any of my mistakes

I would wait untill the buds are out of the sheath at least.....a change right now if its a cooler darker spot could cause a mold or fungus and the flowers could be even better on the new one than the one in bloom now.

You lucky ducks! I too have a drumbeat heritage catt and she is currently growing 2 new leaves and has previously over the summer grown an additional 4 leaves. Now where are my sheaths! Geez! I hope you two enjoy all your gorgeous purply/pink flowers :)

fireplace mantle? sounds hazardous... very dry

Thanks for the responses. winston, the fireplace isn't being used, so not so much of a fire hazard but sure the dryness would be a factor. Katie, I am enjoying the flower that is in bloom right now and I actually have two sheaths one with flowers about half way up the sheath and the other has not started the flower yet. I think I am going to leave it where it is until it is getting ready to open. I will have to try and placate the wife with one of the phals, but they do not have the wow factor or the frangrance of the drumbeat. Still one of my favorite catts. Thanks again for the repsonses.

It is usually best to wait to move them until after the buds emerge. I have blasted many buds moving them too soon.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Mine has bloomed twice and I don't remember a fragrance.......hmmmm....What does it smell like?

Any Cattleya,Dendrobium,Oncidium, Laelia etc that has a shealth with the formation of a good solid bud. I personally wait for the shealth to sart turning brown and cut it open with a nice sharp clean razor blade and cut down from the tip of the shealth to the axis of the bud. One should take extreme caution with the plant and the person when atempting this. This allows air and light to the bud wich will in turn give you a better chance of seeing the blooms.

The fragrance is quite strong! 2 blooms fill up my living room! i dont know what im gonna do with 4 active bloom sheaths! its hard to describe.. its kinda like french toast and lilac........ that sounds awful but it really is beautiful!!!! can be overwhelming so i turned the fan on a lot of days
