spathoglottis plicata stem propagation like phaius? to cut or not when done blooming?
Hi I am not sure wether better posting here or in the terrestrials forum
anyway My Spathoglottis plicata has been blooming for a while. should I cut the stem when it is done? I am wondering if I could propagate from the stem like a Phaius. If i cut the stem and keep it in a humid seedlings box maybe could generate plantlets from teh nodes. but I am not sure if it may bloom again from the same stem. But rather than watch it dry on the plant I could try to experiment with propagation. thanks |
Hi Stefano
I have not seen spathoglottis produce keikis, but not to say they can not. Maybe you could try hormone past to induce keikis. It works for some Phaius for sure and they are related Brett |
thanks for the reply - wonder if they sell keiki paste in nyc. could I cut the spike?

Hi
If using paste, leave the spike in the plant until the keiki has formed. I am sure an orchid nursery would be able to supply the hormone/keiki paste. Brett |
