Need a fast reply! Do I pack a flask in hold baggage or carry on?

Hi all!!
I'm in Indonesia on vacation, and have just bought my first flask from a grower here. Just one question though, when flying back to the UK, should I absolutely put it in carry on, or do you think I can get away with putting it in my hold baggage? The slight complication is that I have a day long layover and I don't want to walk around Dubai with flask!!
I'm so excited about my little orchids, and don't have anyone here who understands except you guys!
Thanks so much for the advice
kay

Carry on. You have control over what's happening. You can also keep an eye on it.

by general rule; anything that you want to make sure that you still have when you get home should be in your carry on. Not that a whole lot of airline employees would want to steal your flask of orchids, but they also dont really care what is in your bags when they THROW them into the storage of the plane. Things get tossed around and depending on the airline, the storage area may not be the same temp as the rest of the plane. Carry it on and you know that youll carry it off in one piece.

Carry on! You never know how much tumbling your checked baggage will endure! You could end up with a broken flask or you seedlings couple become agar (spelling?) soup, and if not removed right away from becoming agar soup you could lose them!

Unless you are absolutely certain you will be allowed to keep the flask in carry-on luggage you are better off packing it carefully in checked luggage. What will you do if you get to security and are forced to leave it behind because it contains a gel that could be an explosive? Are you going to argue and risk missing your flight?

A very valid point! Maybe before checking your luggage you could check with the counter attendants or go ask security before checking you luggage? And what about importing permits?
