Hi CaptFrank and welcome to the OB and orchid growing. The book I would recommend is Florida Orchid Growing by Dr. Martin Motes. It gives a month to month care guide. Good luck.

What kind of orchids do you own?

That helps to pinpoint their requirements.

There is really no one set website to learn about orchid culture.

Too many and too varied.

It depends on what you're growing.

Not all orchids grow in the same part of the world. Many grow in different conditions and habitats.

Hybrids will behave a little differently than species.

So depending on what kind of information you're looking for, it's varied.

This place is a good start.

Welcome aboard Capt. A really good book for beginners(and those of us who think we know what we're doing) is 'UNDERSTANDING ORCHIDS' by William Cullina.
If look to the left of your screen in the Site Menu, down towards the bottom is Book Reviews. You may want to get other members opinions of the various books/guides listed there.

Here is a suggestion to go with the recommendation of Martin Motes' book.

Martin hosts the Tamiami International orchid show this month. Come on by and meet Martin and he will also autograph the book as well.

Jan 30-31, 2010 Tamiami International Orchid Festival; The Sunshine Pavilion at the Fair and Expo Center, 10901 S.W. 24th St., Miami, Fl 33165 Jan 30-31th 2010 10 AM to 8 PM on the 30th and 10AM to 6PM on the 31st.

If you come stop by my booth and say hello - Jerry Meola Pelican Coast Farms, Inc.

My favorite beginners' book is Orchids for Every Home by Wilma and Brian Ritterhausen, and published by Reader's Digest. There are a lot of books out there on general orchid culture, and frankly almost every one contains misconceptions and outright erroneous information. This one though is quite good. It covers all the commonly grown genera and gives some good tips on how to grow them in your home. It is also worded for beginners - so it's easy to understand while at the same time teaches you some of the jargon that you will encounter in this hobby.
