Phal venosa - forcing rebloom
Hello all, I am sure this has been covered but I cannot find the info...can someone tell me how low the night temps need to be in relation to the day temps and for how long do we need to lower the night temps (a month, two months?)to cause a phal to rebloom.
thanks ps do paphs have these same requiremnts to rebloom successfully? m |
Hi , It depends on where you are growing them, in my green house I don't do anything there is a natural drop in night Temps. in the fall .
If growing in the house moving them to a cooler area might help I don't know for how long tho . Gin |
follow up to my phal venosa post
I am growing my phals in and near an east/north east window. I have moved the plant closer to the glass to get maximum possibility of a temp drop, but I think the best I might do for now is a one or two degree drop. I am in Calgary and our temps right now are hovering around zero C so I can't open a window to force a futher drop for fear of possible plant damage. In the summer (if it ever gets here) I can probably either move them outside in the evening or at least open a window with no problem.

The one you have is a species , here is a link to it . It is the start of species Phal. blooming season mine seem to like the warm Temps. I would not move it might be the wrong thing to do , The night drop applies mainly to hybrids . Hope this helps . I must of been out to lunch on the first post I did . Gin IOSPE PHOTOS

I don't know the 'official' answer but I can tell you what works for me - I physically move some phals next to a window and drop the temperature to around 15 C at night for about three weeks, no change to day temperature. Usually that results in a flower spike. I normally do this in the fall or the spring (depends on the plant) when the outside temperature is around 10 C or so, by opening a window at night. At the moment, it's -15C outside, so I have a little while to wait yet! |
