phal with keikis - what to do?
I have a small keikis (sp?) growing on an old stalk of a plant I rescued two months ago. Should I cut it and part of the stalk and plant it or let it continue to grow? Does this take any energy from the plant?

Bettyboop,
Keep the kekis on the stem until the roots reach about 1 1/2 to 2" in length. Then carefully twist each keki and its roots off and plant in small containers, probably 3" to 4", with the medium of choice for your growing conditions. I prefer 80% small fir bark and 20% perlite, but if you are using CHC or sphagnum moss, that works too. Good luck, CL |
Thanks for the input. Sounds like I have a way to go before this kekis becomes a new plant. I hope I have the patience. BB

I would let it grow untill spring myself or untill it has fairly nice size leaves ....I would mist the air roots a few times a week just like it was a mounted phal and when I was ready to take it off I would cut the old spike just below the keiki and just above it also ....unless it was still growing new buds or another keiki.I would then give it a day or so to heal the cuts and then pot it up.
