Species-specific (Phal equestris) fungus?
Hello all! Anybody know if there is a fungus that might be specific to Phal equestris? Both my regular equestris and the alba have developed mushy/watery brownish gray areas on the leaves; what's odd is that both plants are not next to each other, and neither of my other two Phal species (bastianii or stuartiana) have picked up whatever this is, even though they're growing closer to the equestris. I've cut off the affected leaves and dusted with cinnamon. Any ideas? I'll toss them out if I have to... Thanks! :hmm

That's an odd one! :scratchhead:
I have a lot of equestris and never saw anything like that. Were they maybe exposed to a cold draft? :hmm |
Don't think so. Nothing that the others weren't exposed to, anyway, and they're fine. I guess I'll just keep an eye on them after removing the bad leaves.

When I see something that makes me :scratchhead: it's time for a Listerine spritz ;)

Ooooh, good idea. I always forget about that. Thanks for the Listerine reminder. Do you spritz the whole plant, roots and all?
|
Not unless I'm repotting. Just spray the spots on the leaves heavily, then give the rest of the plant a light mist in general. You might also try dabbing a little cinnamon on the mushy places once they're damp from the Listerine

I like that!! Listerine sounds like a good tip for spots!! Do you mist the whole plant when repotting as a preventive?
|
When I'm repotting, which is every plant I get, I clean up the roots, spray the entire plant really well, let it sit for a few minutes and then rinse. Just as I'm repotting it, I give the whole plant another light misting all over and leave it. :)
