Cattleya skinneri var alba

Our cattleya are setting spikes we think. We can see the spikes within a thin "bag". Its as thin as you can look through it almost.
Now my question. There are 2 of thoose bags. One is green the other one is getting browner by the day. Is this a step in the process for it to bloom or is there something wrong? If something is wrong what can we do to prevent the green one from getting brown too? I can add that it looks like the thing inside the bag is growing. Attached are some pics of the bags.... Yep, they are setting up for a great blooming show. You should at this time continue on a steady watering regimen and don't forget they love light. Once they have bloomed they will go into a resting period and once you see the roots waking up you can repot the it if needed. Remembering to put in a pot where you do not have to repot it for a few years, but don not go to large....great job

Looks like blooms in your future  Don't forget to post a picture when they open . Gin

I think the 'browning' of the spata (the name of the 'bags') is due to low atmosferic humidity, but it doesn't harm the buds. Don't forget to share the show!

looks like its doing great! I might keep an eye on those 'bags' just in case the blooms might need some help getting out. Just my 2 cents worth though. Be sure to keep us updated.

Hi,
Well the Alba is coming along fine. The fist bloom spike has penetrated the spata. Its growing fast. The fisrt of the photos attached is from the 3:rd of April, the second one is from today. The speed it grows with is amazing to me. We tender it carefully and I promise to come back with posts once the flowers breaks. |
