Fertilizers and Pesticides
 
Mabuhay!

I just bought 2 devices for my different chemical (synthetic and natural) application, a 7 and 3 litre sprayer bottles. The 7 litre bottle will be used for my ferts while the 3 litre for pesticide use. My dilemma is i am having a hard-time thinking what would be the correct measurement for each bottle when i apply my ferts/pesticides. I have to admit i am really really bad in math.

Here's a formula that is pretty good for making up solutions, it might help you

c1 x v1= c2 x v2

c1 is your original concentration, v1 is your orginal volume, c2 is the concentration of whaty ou r trying to get, and v2 is the volume you are trying to get.

This works well for liquids, for example, if I have a pesticide concentrate solution that is 50% (that's c1) and I want it to be a 5% solution (c2) in a 3 liter bottle (v2), I need to know what the volume to put in it would be (v1):

.5 x v1=.05 x 3=
so .05 x 3= .15 and divide that be .5 (c1)=
.3 liters for v1

(you might need to find an online converter to turn .3 liters into a more useable amount, like mL or grams or something smaller.

To answer the "how much fertilizer" question, it depends upon the formula of the fertilizer - a 10-10-10 fertilizer is twice as strong as a 5-5-5, right out of the package, so you'd have to use twice as much of the 5-5-5 to give the same final concentration as you would with the 10-10-10.

I recommend feeding plants with a concentration of 100-150 ppm N. If you divide 13 by the %N on the label, the result is the milliliters to use per liter of final solution for the midpoint of that range (i.e., you can round up or down as it convenient and still be OK).

For you non-metric folks, divide 10 by the %N for teaspoons to use per gallon.
