:waving It's cramped,it's packed,but it's my little bit of paradise.A nice place to sit with a good book and a cup of tea on a cold,gray winter day...75'+,60-70% humidity,and tons of light.The chids love it and so do the cats.The room is 15'x15' with 10' ceiling in the basement.Lights on 14+ hours a day,three fans on with the lights,one fan on 24/7,75'+ daytime,60'+- night temps,cold humidifier on 24/7, and you don't want my utility bills,but worth every cent to me. I love it! This is what I would like to do with a 'spare' (about the same size) room I have but it's the bills that keep me from doing it.

Thanks Nicole.I've cut the costs a lot by using high out output cfl's.A 250w equivalent cfl uses only 67w power,the same as a 60w regular bulb.Every little bit helps the budget.Brad

Absolutely wonderful Brad. My basement has too much competition for such an adventure so my areas are spred about the house :) I fully understand the bills. Mine is quite high, thank you very much ;) I have a 4 foot 8 tube t5 fixture, 2 4 foot 4 tube t5s, 3 24" 2 tube t5 and an assortment of t5 CF fixtures. But, as you say, with such a long winter up here, I have to do something.

It really is a humble little walk-in terrarium.My previous homes' grow room boasted a 3'x5'sand box with a heat lamp and a lawn chair.Too bad the jerk we were renting from took the rent we gave him and bought a sail boat and now lives on it somewhere in Florida.Say,when does hurricane season start?I apologize to our Florida friends.It's a pity hurricanes aren't selective.At any rate,thanks,Ross,and thanks to all. just got a small cool mist one at target on sale. holmes ultrasonic...
my sinuses feel dry - humidity went up now from 40 to 70 %

:rofl: No Stephano,no stoners here.If I had the money for that stuff,I would buy more orchids and maybe replace my old Lasko humidifier with a good one like yours.The people at the power co. can think what they want. We had to move last May when the jerks bank forclosed on him,may he rot in hell.Our new place has less room to work with,but we make do.In the old house,the electric ran about $300+ a month in the dead of winter.This year should be less since I have swiched to cfl,s from the old grow spot bulbs. Brad

Beautiful setup, congrats! :clap: I am fortunate (especially these days) to live in an apartment where the rent includes utilities. Of course my landlord is also one of my best friends, which helps. When the orchid hobby took off, I let him know I was going to be using more electricity and volunteered up front to kick in an extra 25 bucks a month on the rent. I run four 4-foot, 4-bulb T5 fixtures plus a humidifier. At first I actually offered him 40 bucks, but he did the math and was happy with the extra 25. And yes, it certainly helps up here in the tundra with our endless winters. I have a lounger chair parked in front of my growing shelves, perfect spot for a book and a pot of coffee. It's better than the tanning salon. :biggrin:
