An Offer of Free Orchids #2: South Florida OB Members only please

Hi guys.

So. Here it is.

Recently, I've been experiencing severe pain in my hands. So much so that I'm limited as to what I can pick up or maneuver with same.

Here's my dilemma: I have two big vandas that I recently potted in big clay pots and river rock. They are incredibly heavy and the thought of moving them in and out during the cold snaps that are coming up makes me want to cry--it's just not possible for me right now.

So. Here are my two options: 1) keep the vandas outside where they will probably freeze to death or 2) find them a home before the cold snaps come in.

I've opted for #2. So. Here's my offer. You can have the orchid, but only if you can come pick it up at my house. :)

The vandas in question are:

Vanda Amy Glynn Creekmur x Vanda Arjuna ‘Illumined’ x Vanda Tricolor (I purchased this vanda from Motes Orchids this past summer. It has a cream base with purple and dark brown spots, and it's scented. It's truly gorgeous.)

Vanda Vivian x Vanda Red Ball (this is my problem vanda from Baldan's, purchased last year. There's nothing wrong with it, it just doesn't like me.)

So, if you

1) are a vanda grower
2) live in South Florida
3) want a very healthy free plant and
4) can come and pick it up at my house before the cold sets in,

PM me. I hate to let them go, but my hands just can't take it.

Oh Maria, I feel for you...literally :bua:
I know the feeling and I'm sorry to hear that you do too :(

I'm sure one of our south Florida neighbors will give them a good home :)

Feel better soon

Hi there. I'm in Miami. West, west Kendall. :)

Hey Maria, I can help you out with that! Why don't you let me keep one or both of them for the winter and then give them back when you are ready. I have many vandas from Motes and RF, too. So they would be in good company. I am close by (in Weston). Send me a pm, ok?

No problem. ;) What are 2 more chids at this point? hehe We are only talking about 2 months, 3 at the most. Maybe they will bloom for me and that will be payback enough! I hate to see anyone lose there beloved chids for reasons beyond their control. Makes me sad too. So just relax and don't worry about it any more. We'll talk soon.

I was going to say the same thing! I live in West Kendall as well but I don't own any Vandas so I'm hesitant. I do have a shade house with %55 light and an automatic sprinkler that turns on every morning which I beleive is ideal for them.
