Raising humidity - plastic or acrylic side walls?
 

Hi - I have outgrown a spot in the garden window for my orchids, and am setting up a new spot in the living room. I use humidity trays, but the house dries things out. I want to hang plastic around my plants, but am worried plastic may not be safe enough in a living area shared by pets and people. Would acrylic be safer? Any suggestions? I'd sure appreciate it. Welcome. I have 25 orchids here in Massachusetts that have adapted fairly well to the lower humidity conditions in my sunroom where the winter temps vary indoors from 55 at night to the mid seventies during the day. They are on humidity trays with nothing covering them. I try to keep the level of humidity at least, in the area of the high forties and all but one Vanda bloom quite nicely. You may find you don't need anything around them. Remember if you enclose them you are going to then ventilated.

Thanks for the suggestion Donald. I wasn't going to totally enclose them as I know ventilation is important too, just on 3 sides. I could try it out without and just mist them once or twice a day instead perhaps.

That would work. I had forgot to mention that I also mist them early in the day. Have fun.
