Hello Orchid Friends,

I would be most gratefull for any identifications of the attached images. All are orchids growing wild around my home in Colombia. Thank you,
Pitter

Pitter, if I had orchids growing around me like the ones in your thread, I would know I was living in someone's shade house!
#4 the bright red one, would have to be a reed stem Epidendrem. I am sure some of the Epi. experts in OB would be able to expand on that.

# 4 looks like Epidendrum radicans, #5 looks to me like Encyclia garcianum, but it is a bit paler then mine, so possibly another Encyclia species. #7 looks like a Gongora type to me. The rest I really don't know.

Im also pretty sure #4 is radicans

Thank you all very much. I´ve come to the right place! Yes the bright red orchid is flowering at the end of a long stem.

Can't help, Pitter, but I certainly enjoyed seeing your photos! Amazing to have these growing wild! #4 reminds me of an Epiphronitis Veitcheii that I had many years ago.

:)

These are only suggestions - someone may know better than I:

#1 - Maxillaria longissima
#2 - Lockhartia longifolia
#3 - Scuticaria steelii (very unsure of this - the lip doesn't look right)
#4 - Epidendrum radicans
#5 - Encyclia fragrans
#6 - Oncidium obryzantum
#7 - Gongora pleiochroma
#8 - Polycycnis barbata (very difficult to tell from the photo)

Some of these will also be found under newer names.

I don't thin k #5 can be Enc. garciana since that doesn't grow in Colombia as far as I know.

Those are some good id's, ron.
I'm pretty sure #3 is an Epi, not Scuticaria. Definately Cattleya alliance.

Pitter 11-22-2009 03:31 PM

Kip is that Epiphronitis?
