Nobile dendro with keikis
 

Wondering whether I should winter chill this thing or not. It has a keiki on it and several areas that are sending out roots at the top of the plant. I hesitate to throw it out in the garage for a winter chill when it is producing all this "action". It is a Nobile type called Oriental Smile. Currently it is under T5 light in the house. Daytime temp of 75 or so and nights in the 60s. Carol

I think you should give it a cooler winter rest. For most plants it's true that if they are kept too warm during the winter (too warm for what would be optimum winter temp for them) the growths are weaker and make the plants more prone to attacks of insects the next season.
The fact that it grows a keiki even might be a result of being kept too warm while it should have been kept colder. Just my 2 cents :)

You want it to slow down it's vegetative growth this time of year, and go somewhat dormant. It shouldn't hurt the Keiki at all. It will just mooch off mom all winter. If you don't chill it it just plain won't bloom. BTW, the offer still stands if you want to bring it to my house. I have the perfect spot out in the studio. I promise to give it back. ;)

I too have this lovely Den, but mine has a seed pod cooking (currently in month 7).

My GH is staying right at 60 evening and 65 day during this chill spell we are having.

Do you think it is too warm? Do you think it will hurt the pod if I chill it more?

How chill is chill? Temperature suggestion please.

I have a Den ansomum keiki I received in a trade that is developing some new growth. so now I am conflicted wether stopping the watering and giving a rest or misting until the new growth gets established...

Also I have a Den Hamana [related to kingianum] that had what I thought was a keiki but now looks like it might be blooming.

to water or not to water? it has been outside all summer/ fall. think there is some sunburn spots on the leaves but I guess it is good as the kingianum grows on exposed rocks

stefpix, I would continue to water the Keiki. It's too little for a winter rest. I wouldn't bother resting it until it's blooming size.

Thanks - what is the blooming size of these? the keiki is about 5 inch long but there is a keiki or new cane growing on it...
