What is this? (Bulbo medusae)
 

It started as a tiny yellow spot and is continuing to grow out/up the leaf. It's not sunburned and the leaf is still firm.

Does anyone recognize this and how I should treat it?

Can somebody help me with this? please.gif

P.S. The break in the leaf has been there since I got it, last April.

Looks infected, possibly bacterial????? I'd remove the leave just above th pseudbulb if the yellow hasn't gotten that far so the PB can continue to provide food.

Before I get the scissors out, anyone else know or suspect what this might be?

Another thing you might want to do if you have the potential situation is to hang this Bulbophyllum. I began stringing some of my plants up out of necessity... too many plants for the available bench space and so far it is working... This bulbo and many others lend themselves to being strung up! This is my B. medusae which was given to me by another OB member out of the kindness of his heart. I have placed the moss around each of the PB in an effort to generate more roots so I can take a division in the spring and send him back a nice piece of his plant. The roots in the background are from another plant (Cattleya).

This is one of my hanging ones but with all-due respect, Doc...what does that have to do with my question? I'm busting your chops a little I know but, couldn't resist. :blowkisses: I was just hoping someone recognized what was going on and could tell me how to care for this. I ended up cutting the leaf off and treating it.

I'm very surprised that no one else responded to your query. You can bust my chops any time you want... Susie Q and Dorothy and some others do it on a regular basis.....

Don't want to start a new thread but I feel like RANTING...once again and since this is a Bulbo topic, I'll cry/rant a little here.

My Bulbo rothschildianum 'Henry Scarfield' finally was growing a spike. This has one of the most spectacular blooms, I bought it last year and a very slow grower. Last week the spike started emerging and last night, I discovered a black, dried up thing in it's place. What I did wrong, is a mystery!!!:duh:

And my Bulbo Jersey....the basket is filled with new growth, the leaves were full and all, seemingly healthy and then, one by one...the leaves are turning a yellow spotty mess and falling off.:duh:

If I didn't love this hobby so much, I'd quit. I don't have an ideal setup...didn't have the fans faithfully, constantly going on these (with all my others), they reside on an outdoor, screened patio. This was one of the hottest summers ever here in So. Fla. but the weather has ever so slightly changed and it's NOW, I'm seeing these fatalities? I'm lousy at this, it's safe to say!

My dear Sandy.... YOU must stop beating yourself up! Stuff happens and many times we don't know the answer because we can't go back and examine every little thing than might have gone wrong! Trust me I've been there and done it more times than I care to recount... and I don't live in Florida... well sometimes.... As for the spike, like paphs and phrags, if the spike got wet or water stayed at the base of the spike, this "may" have been the situation because this is the fastest way to knock off a spike! I can't begin to tell you how many paph flowers on my plants never made it because I got careless with my watering/misting!!!!

Next some pictures of your B. Jersey would be helpful so maybe we can all figure out what is what.... certainly a weather change may be the answer but ??????? I know my mom up in Stuart has said it has been one hot summer and only this week has the temperature dropped.

The first is the B. Jersey. All those bulbs have lost their leaves within the month, the last 2 just yesterday. They're growing new bulbs which is confusing me.

The second is the B. "Henry...." Nothing here to note except for seeing the dead spike....sniffles. And, it did not get wet. I'm always careful about this. In fact, I had the bulb resting on additional bark to keep it off the medium when I do water?????????

I added a pic. of my Paph growing a spike...just to balance things out, here.:biggrin:

I don't think I'll be doing more Bulbos tho.....:bua:
