Brassavola Nodosa purple leaves

I purchased a Brassavola Nodosa about 4 weeks ago and we have had nothing but rain since then. It is in a south facing window under T12 daylight light bulbs about 6" away. We finally have sunshine this week:biggrin: and the leaves are turning purple on the edges and on the back of some of them. I'm thinking that is a good sign that they are getting the light they need (no signs of burning). Just looking for a little reassurance.

Yup, sounds good to me. These like the high light. Extremely sudden increases can still cause problems so just keep an eye on it. Sounds like it's happy.

Sounds good to me too. These guys can take a LOT of light.

:lol:When I got my Brassavola Nodosa last year and hung it in a southern window it turned purple but only lasted a short while, may have just gotten used to the increased sunshine. Anyhow here is a picture of it when I got it and today. I think yours is just getting used to the increased sun and loving it, just keep an eye on it.

Maree just as an FYI yours is not Brassavola nodosa but rather one of its hybrids. It looks like Bl. Yellow Bird which is a hybrid of nodosa and Richard Mueller if I'm not mistaken. Lovely blooms by the way.

Roly - you are so right :bowing. I always wondered why mine was so much more yellow. After I read your response I double checked the tag and you are right on. Sorry if I lead anyone astray. Thanks for keeping me in line. :blushing:

No problem Maree. I just wanted to let you know in case you didn't have the correct tag. By the way; doesn't your room smell great at night. I love the citrucy scent on it.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad to know I've got enough light to meet its requirements. That window looks pretty darn bright on a sunny day. Maree I love your orchid the flowers are gorgeous.
