Congratulations on blooming Dendrobium crumenatum (the Pigeon or Dove Orchid).
I've read that crumenatum will bloom (once a year) within ten days of a (steady) heavy rain and a temperature drop. Flowers only last for a day, but OH what a delightful fragrance!

to lagoon: ahahaha i know what you mean...mine is more hopeful. i mean, when i saw it closed when i got back at night, i was still hopeful it would open the next morning, LOL but it didn't...it's a good thing there was a bud that is scheduled to open. LOL...have to enjoy every minute of it, while still open...it's a good thing there's the picture for us to share and for it to last...

Last year, I bloomed my massive specimen over 10 times (they can bloom MORE than once a year ;)). The flowers do last for a day, and attract hundreds of female bees. This species is great and easy to grow, but it gets so dead looking and "whippy" (canes up to 3ft. long)...

What wonders can be accomplished when you can grow your orchids outdoors year-round! Pat, I hope you'll post some photos of your plant's next bloom.
From Wikipedia: The Pigeon Orchid (Dendrobium crumenatum) is a member of the family Orchidaceae. It produces white, fragrant flowers with a yellow tinted throat. The bloom cycle is triggered by sudden drops in temperature (at least 5.5 °C or 10 °F), usually as a result of rain, although the same effect can be artificially created. The plant produces a fragrant smell, but only for two days.

A tropical plant, it is the most common orchid in Singapore, found growing naturally on trees as well as being planted onto street trees by the authorities.
