Is this a Miltonia spectabilis?

I got this plant a few weeks back and it had a handwritten tag on it that was hard to read and seemed miss-spelled. Looking at the tag and the plant I think it is a Miltonia spectabilis var. moreliana. Am I correct in assuming this?
The color is much deeper purple in person and is a very large plant.
Thanks

Hi Murphy,
Your plant is some sort of hybrid involving Miltonia moreliana. Here's how a pure M. moreliana looks like:

Spelling is the same as what is listed on Orchid wiz, so I'd probably assume tag is correct.

Thanks for the info... any idea what it is?

murphy48 09-29-2009 04:59 PM

The spelling on the tag was not what I wrote in my first post, I'll have to go home and check the tag again. When I googled what I thought was written nothing came up so either I misread it or the person who made the tag made it wrong. I'll take a picture of the tag once I'm home.

Thank you so much nenella :blushing:
It was a last minute purchase. I was at Maplethorpe Orchids and had picked out many other orchids and right as I was paying I saw this one. I couldn't pass it up especially because he only wanted $20 for it.

Murphy, all the images on o. wiz under the name you provided seem to have a lighter lip than your does. As Mauro says probably a hybrid involving moreliana as the shape of flower etc. look the same. Light 1800 - 3000 fc, strong air movement, day temps 75-78, nights 63-64. Seems to be a bit of a rest period in the winter for them, but do not let them dry out completely, like humidity at 80 - 85%. I'll wait to see your next post & check again.

I have to laugh at myself, I remembered the tag being harder to read but it is definitely written neatly. Still I can't figure out what it was suppose to be... any ideas? It appears to say "SPERTALILIS"

Thanks Brenda Aarts for the culture information!

Wow, it's certainly pretty!
I'm afraid I can't help on what it is though.
