Brassolaelia Richard Mueller = Brassavola nodosa X Cattleya (Laelia) milleri
Cattleya Landate = Cattleya aclandiae x Cattleya guttata
according to the RHS hybrid orchid registry :D

As Dorothy says above, that is the registered background.

What the registrations do not say is that both the Bl Richard Mueller and C. Landate parents of this particular cross are tetraploids, making almost all of the offspring quite good.
I selected 'Cosmic Showers' because it is very different. Most of this cross blooms a darker red-orange color with dark red spots.

Here is an example of a very good darker form. This is Blc. Rustic Spots 'H&R'

This is pretty cool. It seems like the Landate parent really comes through. Does 'Cosmic Showers' open with the color you posted or does it change over time like 'H&R?'

I was just about to ask about ploidy. MY, that is a well bred little thing. wonderful balance, good symmetry. What are it's measurements?

It's one of those flowers that when you see on a judging table you go "oooooh" and start tallying up the scorecard in your head.

I'm just curious but I bought a Landate from Santa Barbara Orchid Estate and it says it's a cross between C. aclandiae and C. leopoldii. Are there different crosses with the same name? Check it out: Cattleya Landate at Santa Barbara Orchid Estate

Isurus. No, the flowers open a little lighter then become as you see. They are pretty constant. On the other hand, 'H&R' opend a darker red-orange, then brightens to the orange with distinct red spots

Flowerchild. The flowers are about 3 to 3-1/2". The plants are only about 8-9" tall.

SP2340. Don't know about SBOE. Maybe it's just an oversight. C. leopoldii and C. guttata are very similar and sometimes hard to tell apart. I seem to recall that, way back, some plants may have been designated as C. guttata v. leopoldii.
