Cycnoches schmidtianum

Cycnoches schmidtianum is a Peruvian specie, which is by accident been reported as Brazilian from the beginning. It was named in the honour of Mr. Antonio Schmidt, owner of Bela Vista Orchids.

Is this a recent discovery? Not only have I never seen one of these, I've never heard of it. Where did you get this one? Its really cool!

Bruno, yes, it is fragrant, but fragrance is not very powerful at least not when compared with such species as, for example, Mormodes maculata. They are standing very close to each other on a windowsill and Mormodes fills up with its aroma whole living room, meanwhile fragrance of Cycnoches schmidtianum is completely unnoticeable.

Steve, Cycnoches schmidtianum was described in Orchids 70: 748 in 2001 by Christenson & G.F.Carr for the first time, if I remember correctly.
