Lc. Sérgio Araújo (=L.alaorii x C. trianae)

Primary hybrids are always interesting crosses in my opinion because one can immediately assess how strong the genes of both species are to compound, to give form, color and texture to the offspring. This is a primary between the well-known and widely grown Cattleya trianae and the miniature Laelia alaorii.
The resulting plants are short, not higher than 12-13 cm, with rare exceptions a little higher than this. I saw hundreds of plants of this cross in bloom, all bearing the same light lavender in the petals and sepals. The only part that showed variation as to the form and intensity of color was the purple mark in the lip.

About how large did the flowers turn out?

Great colors!

Nice one, the small size definitely would help in my grow space. I am quickly running out of room!!

Nice hybrid Rosim. This is a good example of both parents making contributions to improve the flower and the plant of the hybrid.
L. alaori has a good color, nice full petals, but a cupped shape. C trianaei made more flowers, made the flower larger and flatter and I guess gave the lip color. And C.alaori really brought down the plant size. Hybrid vigor should make it an easier grower than L. alaori.
Very nice.

You are righ on your comments, Catwalker, except that the flower count was affected by the alaorii parent, I mean I saw only two or three plants out of hundreds with two flowers on the stem. Never saw three:).

I really like it. I'm not good on knowing the traits of different orchids, although I keep looking back at your threads Mauro to help me get an idea :)
